Who Can Apply for the CDCP?

You may be eligible for the CDCP if you meet all the following requirements:

  • You do not have access to private dental insurance or dental benefits.
  • You and your spouse or common-law partner (if applicable) have filed your tax returns.
  • Your adjusted family net income is less than $90,000 per year.
  • You are a Canadian resident for tax purposes.

How Do I Apply for the CDCP?

You can apply for the CDCP in the following ways:

  • Apply online: Visit Canada.ca/dental.
  • Provide your information: You will need your name, date of birth, address, Social Insurance Number (SIN), and information about any government dental programs you participate in.
  • Apply by phone: If you cannot apply online, call 1-833-537-4342.

How Do I Know if I Am Covered by the CDCP?

If your application is approved, you will receive a CDCP member card and a letter confirming when your dental coverage begins and ends.

Remember to:

  • Renew your coverage every year before your renewal deadline.
  • Check that your CDCP coverage is active before each dental appointment.
  • Verify your coverage by calling 1-833-537-4342 or visiting the CDCP Status Checker.

Is the CDCP Free? Will I Still Have to Pay?

The CDCP does not necessarily cover the full cost of your dental care. Depending on your family income and the services you receive, you may have to pay a portion of the cost.

Based on adjusted family net income, the standard CDCP co-payment rates are:

  • Under $70,000: 0% co-payment
  • $70,000–$79,999: 40% co-payment
  • $80,000–$89,999: 60% co-payment

Please keep in mind:

  • The CDCP does not cover every dental service.
  • Your dental office may charge the difference between the CDCP’s established fees and its regular fees.
  • Other government dental programs may coordinate benefits with the CDCP, potentially reducing your out-of-pocket costs for eligible services.

Which Dental Services Are Covered Under the CDCP?

The CDCP covers many routine dental services, subject to eligibility requirements and plan limitations. These may include:

  • Dental examinations and X-rays
  • Teeth cleanings
  • Fillings
  • Tooth extractions
  • Root canal treatments
  • Certain sedation services

Crowns and dentures may also be covered when eligibility requirements are met and the required approval is obtained.

The CDCP generally does not cover orthodontics, night guards, dental implants, bridges, or cosmetic dentistry.Coverage rules may change, so check the official CDCP guidelines for the latest information.
