1. Bleeding Gums.

While bleeding gums happens to a lot of people, it doesn’t mean that it’s okay. Gums bleed when plaque sits on your teeth too long. Bleeding is a sign that that area is unhealthy. Improve your oral hygiene by brushing twice a day, flossing every day, and rinsing with a therapeutic mouthwash twice a day. If the bleeding doesn’t stop after 2 weeks of good daily oral hygiene, call your dentist.

You most likely just need a dental cleaning and home care advice. If you wait too long, the bone under the gum will be destroyed. This is called periodontitis. You won’t be able to regrow bone that is lost so pay attention to bleeding gums as it is the first sign you have gum disease – gingivitis. Gingivitis is reversible. Resolve gingivitis before it becomes periodontitis.

2. Tooth pain or pressure.

It’s not normal to have tooth pain or feel tooth pressure. See a dentist about this as you may have a cavity, a cracked tooth, or need a filling replaced. Don’t wait until you have pain to see a dentist. Once you have pain, the damage may be extensive. It’s important to see a dentist every 6 months to maintain good oral health and catch any problems in the early stages.

3. Tooth sensitivity.

If you have sensitivity that is not resolved by a toothpaste for sensitive teeth, see a dentist. You may have a cavity, gum recession, a cracked tooth or enamel erosion. Don’t wait too long as we want to fix your teeth before the situation gets worse.

4. Broken teeth or lost fillings.

Visit the Bolton dentist right away when you break or chip a tooth or if you lost a filling. Cavities and pain can easily occur in these areas, and sharp edges can cut the inside of your mouth. The longer you wait, the worse it will be.

5. It’s been a long time since you’ve been to the dentist.

Don’t wait until there is pain to see a dentist. Visit a dentist at least every 6 months for an exam and cleaning. We can find problems when they are small and easily fix them, and make sure you are taking care of your teeth well at home.
