1. What happens during the first visit?

During the first visit, you will get an examination and diagnosis. This involves checking the outside and inside of your mouth, doing an oral cancer screening, checking your teeth and gums, and taking necessary x-rays. At Watermelon Dental, we will also do a 3D scan (no radiation) of your mouth so you can see what we see.

We also review your oral hygiene habits and diet, then give you advice on how you can improve.

The examination is painless and a great way to find out what is going on inside your mouth and what treatment and maintenance you need to achieve a healthy smile.

We will ask you what concerns or questions you have about your mouth, and help you get healthy and have a smile you are confident about.

If you are scared about treatment, don’t worry, we offer nitrous oxide and oral sedation.

We don’t shame or judge you. We are here to help you.

2. Will I get my teeth cleaned during my first visit?

You can book a cleaning the same day or another day based on scheduling. It’s important to get a dental cleaning and exam at least every 6 months to optimize your oral health and catch any problems in the early stages.

3. How much will it cost?

In Ontario, the cost of a new patient exam for adults is $191 in 2026. The cost of x-rays ranges from $50 – $300 depending on how many you need. We can check your coverage with your insurance company before your appointment.

4. Do you do direct billing?

Yes, at Watermelon Dental, we do direct billing. We accept all private dental benefits, and the following government dental programs: Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) and the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP).  You only have to pay what is not covered by your dental benefits.

5. I am scared of the dentist. What do you offer to help my dental anxiety?

Many people have dental anxiety. We understand how you are feeling and we want to help you feel more comfortable. We don’t judge or shame. We provide sedation, distractions, a stress-free environment and a friendly team to make it easier for you to get dental care in comfort without fear.
